Basic Greek in 30 Minutes a Day

Ron Uebel gave me this Greek book (amidst a stack of other blessings) and I have really enjoyed it. It takes a very different approach than the typical seminary text book (like the one I blogged on yesterday). It is SO VERY EASY and quick to get into the Scriptures. I HIGHLY recommend this for folks like me with no Greek background (even over the book I talked about yesterday). My plan is to get through this book, then get through the seminary one.Take a look inside via the Amazon.com link below. It shows you the first few pages and how you don’t even memorize the Greek alphabet right away. You just jump straight into Bible verses! Very neat!

I have finished this book (and am going through it a second time now) and it is amazing! Highly recommended.

I'm not familiar with the contributers of that version, and where they stand. But thank you for stating your response, the way you did to Alvin. Well said. If we are truly believers in Christ, why is it that we are so sensitive and take so much of what is said as ammo to throw back in ones face, instead of reflecting on it for ourselves and letting God do the slinging if he so

- The Reformers and their Stepchildren

  Hello. Here's me (Christy) giving an impromptu audio review of the first few chapters to Tony. This book is very scholarly and thus takes more time to go through but I have been enjoying reading about the remnant of true believers that have always historically been. I don't call myself "reformed" because I didn't come out of the churches formed by Luther or Calvin. I think that we should be careful of the term unless you used to embrace the Roman Catholic doctrine at one time and now have converted to Lutheran or Presbyterian doctrines fully. Simply believing the 5 points of TULIP is not enough to make oneself 'reformed'. It seems that some of my beliefs would be enough for some reformers to burn me at the stake! I would probably be labeled a heretic because I don't line up exactly with many of their doctrines (such as paedo-baptism).
- Another Book I (Christy) am Reading is "The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach"

  This book is written by Robin Sampson, author of "A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays." In it she describes the philosophy of training our children according to Biblical principles and getting beyond the Greek training we probably went through in our education. She gives a great history of education and describes how the Hebrews educated and trained their children. In her book she proposes that we train our children towards gaining God's wisdom, all you have to do is read the book of Proverbs to see this is what God desires for each of us. This includes a great amount of time in the day spent studying God's Word. Studies for other subjects are centered around a specific topic, then you try and plumb all the aspects you can of the topic as related to history, geography, spelling, etc. Another way to say it would be unit studies. This seems to be a great way of tying God's Word into subjects and then teaching how to think and study. I know there are different ways of doing unit studies but Sampson does not use the "classical" method because of it's Greek roots. It is a resource worthy of checking out and Google books has parts of the book for FREE online.
