The Maxwell Family Stops by for a Visit

Yesterday we were tremendously blessed to spend the whole day (or so it seemed) with the Maxwell family. They are doing an East Coast speaking tour and stopped by the Creation Museum. We had the pleasure of fellowshiping with them over lunch and then later in the evening we attended their conference. What a blessing!! I praise the Lord for this family and sense a real kindred love in the Spirit with them.
It was such a joy to see children who love the Lord, following in their father’s steps as he follows his Father. One high point of encouragment (there were many) was to see how they are not simply content to be inwardly focused, sort of happy to be saved and a bit indifferent to the lost world. Not at all! Praise God that He has given them a heart for the lost as well as the elect. Edifying the elect through their conferences and most of their materials while at the same time reaching out to the lost on a personal, one on one basis. Praise God! Here is their more evangelistic website http://www.familiesforjesus.com/ Oh, you have to take a look at their blog to see some of their witnessing adventures. Click here http://www.titus2.com/blog/index.php/category/evangelism/ It was neat to see that they even purchased the same type of gospel tracts that we did http://www.familiesforjesus.com/tracts/index.php We recently bought 4 out of 6 of the same tracts as they did. Instead of the IQ or Intelligence tests we got the “Giant Money” $100 bills and the “Gift For You” gospel tracts.
One of the ways we’ve been encouraged in the Lord is through both Steve and Teri’s monthly “Corners” email. I highly recommend you sign up for free here where you can also read previous month’s Corners.

Please pray for this Christ-centered family as they seek to build up the body of Christ through His word. One of the many things that sticks out in my head from the conference was when Steve said we ought to “Bury the Beast”. He was referencing the glowing blue idol, otherwise known as the television. A long time ago I remember Michael Bradrick saying about TV (loosely paraphrased), “Would you invite those kinds of people on TV into your home for real? If not, then turn it off and get rid of it.” I think along with negative peer pressure, probably the television is the greatest evil influence in families. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe this inanimate object is inherently evil, but Satan does control most of the programming. We have a television, but don’t get any reception. We mainly use it to watch Christ-honoring DVDs and tapes, although very rarely we will watch a secular movie (usually when we’re walking in the flesh… Pray for us!).
Christy mentioned that in just about every talk we have heard from them, it’s been so encouraging to hear them praise the Lord throughout. Their love for Jesus just flows out of their mouths naturally. What a blessing. Praise the Lord that Grace is such a big girl now. She actually went with Miss Ari and Amber to Sarah Maxwell’s talk for young girls. Then Grace went to Christopher Maxwell’s talk on evangelism for young people. It’s an absolutely incredible joy to see my children growing in their desire for the things of the Lord. One of the things that Grace and Stephen both really enjoy is the “Moody” series of books by Sarah Maxwell. I HIGHLY recommend these books for any youngsters as the attitudes of the children in these fictional books are very God-honoring. It’s so rare to find Christian fiction books that we can let our children read with confidence. In fact, now that I think about it, I think these may be the only fictional story books our children have (other than Pilgrim’s Progress). One more reason to praise the Lord for the Maxwell family.

Oh for heaven’s sake! Go out and help the needy like Jesus did rather than hiding in fear from the world and being only with people who think exactly as you do. If you are firm in your Christian beliefs you needn’t be so afraid of the world as the Maxwells are. Steve Maxwell has interpreted a few biblical phrases to give himself permission to completely control the thoughts of his wife and children. Terri can’t even plan a day’s schedule without his permission. Do you think he will ever give his adult daughters permission to marry and leave home? And maybe even live some distance from him? So far he can’t seem to do this even though his eldest is 28. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I’ve often wondered how Steve Maxwell gives himself and his family permission to use the services of the “wicked” as he calls worldly people to take care of his family when they need medical care; who build the RV he drives; who build the roads and highways they drive on and so on. Does he think God creates these people just to take care of his and his families’ needs and then sends them on to hell when they die?
This family is all about Steve Maxwell’s neediness for control and not about being truly Christian and helping others even though they may not think just like you do.
