Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he [God] hath made him [Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
For as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him [Jesus] do believe in God that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. 1 Peter 1:18-23
****At this time of year when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we now have the latest attack on Christ and the Bible with the “news” of the discovery of the tomb of Christ and his (supposed) “family.” Below is the account that was on the news on 2-27-07:
“According to the Discovery Channel’s documentary “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” airing Sunday, March 4, the bones of Jesus– buried with His family — have been found. In addition, the documentary says that Mary Magdalene and Jesus might have had a son named Judah.”
Here is what The Discovery Channel says about the program and the Christian faith:
“All leading epigraphers agree about the inscriptions. All archaeologists confirm the nature of the find. It comes down to a matter of statistics. A statistical study commissioned by the broadcasters (Discovery Channel/Vision Canada/C4 UK) concludes that the probability factor is 600 to 1 in favor of this tomb being the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth and his family.”
Having watched how Hollywood portrays Christians and Christian values for the past 30 years, it is clear that Hollywood considers Christianity its greatest enemy. Because of our silence, Christianity is the only religion they feel free to attack!
It is interesting that this information was actually known many years ago, but is now being released on the heels of the recent popular book and movie, The DaVinci Code, which also tried to demean Christ’s deity. Surely at some point some of us (and the world) would start to ask WHY is it only Jesus Christ that is constantly being put to the test of proof? Why is Allah’s credibility never questioned? (We all know the answer to that…..it costs you your life if you become vocal in your queries!) Why do people never take Allah’s name in vain, or Buddha’s, or Zoroaster’s? Why is it only God and Jesus that are used this way? Why does Christianity continue to be such a threat to Communism, Hollywood, certain political persuasions, and those who are very liberal? Why even within the professing body of Christianity is there a move away from the absolutes of Biblical Truth to man’s truth of “tolerance and love” and no consequences for sin? Why are there increasing converts to Islam when Allah demands your son to die for him, and yet Christianity’s God sent His Son to die for mankind, with no strings attached? (Ephesians 2:8,9) In an increasingly “politically correct” world we will continue to see only a remnant of true believers, who are committed not in only word, but in deed. Jesus talks many times in Scripture of those who give lip service but their hearts are far from Him as seen by their deeds. (See Isaiah 29:13, Matthew 7:21)
Too many believers today cannot defend their faith against the daily barrage and intimidation of the above mentioned tirades. 1 Peter 3:13-15 gives a wonderful way to act with regard to defending your faith. We all know that we do what is important and we have what we tolerate. So if we are truly believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, and resurrected from the dead (no bones left behind, and seen by over 500 people, 1 Corinthians 15), then at what point do we start taking a stand on what we believe? Many “Christians” do not care enough about what they say they believe to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, mainly because it is not enough of a priority to them in the face of all the cares of the world and maintenance of STUFF and lifestyles. Following Jesus historically has always entailed a COST. Often the cost of commitment is death, happening even today in many areas of the world. (What is the “cost” of your Christianity?)
Growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ is a life long walk of faith. It is disciplining ourselves for the purpose of godliness (I Timothy 4:7). Our Lord desires a RELATIONSHIP not a RELIGION with Him. Let us show our love for Him through our actions and not just our words, being doers of the Word, and not just hearers (James 2:20), not “legalistically” but obediently out of our love for the Lord Jesus. Responding to the challenges of everyday living are increasingly tough “workshops” and the constant challenge is between better or best. Let us walk worthy, increase in the knowledge of God, please Him, and bear fruit (Col. 1:10).
We have had a very busy last couple of months with the ministry, lots of company, medical, dental, eye appointments, repairs, car needs, replacements of utilities (here we go again!) Jobe is improving after a change of doctors and having a reduction in medication. He is still on the heart monitor, with the next appointment on March 6, which should give us a better idea of what course of treatment, if any, should be followed. Hopefully with the decline in atrial fibrillation over this past couple of weeks, only continued medication will be recommended.
Taryn and Mirren continue on in their course of study enjoying the benefits of studying the same material. They were informed this week that their doctoral dissertation proposals have been accepted, a huge answer to prayer! (To say that we severely miss them and their presence in the ministry would be an understatement!) We are encouraged by the increased interest in the new four hour two DVD series, The Evolution of a Creationist—Does It Matter? Also in the feedback we are getting from so many that have watched it and are using it for a home Bible study, homeschool, or in their churches for a four night series.
The time at His Hill Bible College in January was one of the most encouraging times that we have experienced there with very outstanding young people and open and eager to learn and be taught. We managed to get ourselves in a snow drift in eastern Colorado in the middle of the night before the Pastor’s Conference in Trinidad in January. Miraculously our cell phone worked in the totally isolated area, the tow truck was there in a couple of hours, and a snow plow to lead us on to Trinidad, and the schedule was met, only by God’s gracious grace! (Fools many times rush in where angels fear to tread as they say!)
The time at Western Carolina University in Sylva, NC, for two nights was refreshingly non-confrontational and the time with the Christian Athletes for a breakfast was well received. The Christian School in Marion, NC, was well behaved and tuned in. Several ministry opportunities were cancelled in January due to the weather, but have been re-scheduled. Our time at the Wholehearted Mother’s Conference (2-23,24) was, as it always is, a total joy, to be able to be with so many Moms who are so committed to the education of their children, and the godly teaching and encouragement that is available (check the website: www.wholeheart.org).
A huge heartbreak for us has been witnessing the Association of Christian Schools (ACSI) allowing blatant old earth-local flood teaching through Hugh Ross’s organization, Reasons to Believe, at the ACSI meetings, both in November and February. Apparently the ACSI believes that since our students get to college and cannot seem to defend their faith, then they must present teachers with both young and old earth teaching so the teachers will know how to teach these issues. Any young earth creationist can teach either side of this issue. The problem with allowing a passionate old earth, local flood speaker in is that many of the Christian teachers who have been schooled in the secular system are not at all convinced of young earth, global flood, which is the Biblical position. They are very easily swayed to the other position, especially since that is the “politically correct” way of thinking in the world today. (John 5:44, John 12:43)
It has been a VERY challenging last couple of months, keep us in your prayers! (We are cutting down on our schedule.)
