In the aftermath of Virginia Tech everyone is asking “Why?” As Christians we have the answer in the Bible. With Adam sin entered the world and that sin will remain until the Lord Jesus comes for us or we die and go to be with Him. In a post-modern deconstructionist New Age society many people do not believe there is any such thing as sin, so all they have is hope in themselves or a “better world” that can somehow be achieved by man’s goodness or environmentalism or tolerance and negotiating.
It is because of the sin of Adam that the Lord Jesus Christ has come to earth to die so that we might be cleansed from our sin and live eternally with Him (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-13, 1John 5, John 3). The Bible has all the answers mortal man needs to live in a fallen world and when we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior we come into an eternal relationship with Him.
Hopefully the following Scriptures will be an encouragement to us all this particular day in the history of America, because it is GOD’s Word, not man’s words that hold the key to life. Our lives are in HIS hands (Psalm 31:14,15) and we are to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom (Psalm 90:12).
In Psalm 139 we are told that God knows the days that were ordained for each us before there was one of them.
If we know the Lord Jesus as our Savior then Romans 14:8 tells us that whether we live or die we belong to the Lord.
We CAN entrust our lives to our faithful Creator in doing what is right (I Peter 4:19).
Someone might think that the Virginia victims must have come under the wrath of God for some unknown reason. But Jesus made it very clear that when calamities like this occur it should remind all of us that life can end for any of us at any instant and that we need to examine ourselves to see where we stand before our holy and righteous Lord. Catastrophes should cause us to take an inward look and repent of our sins.
The Bible says it like this in Luke 13: “There were present at that season some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, “Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except you repent, you shall likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay, but, except you repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
