It is good to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
O Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep.
A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.
For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
To show that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
“Resting on God”
O God Most High, most glorious, the thought of Thine infinite serenity cheers me,
For I am toiling and moiling, troubled and distressed, but Thou art forever at perfect peace.
Thy designs cause Thee no fear or care of unfulfillment, they stand fast as the eternal hills.
Thy power knows no bond, Thy goodness no stint.
Thou bringest order out of confusion, and my defeats are Thy victories:
The Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
I come to Thee as a sinner with cares and sorrows, to leave every concern entirely to Thee,
Every sin calling for Christ’s precious blood;
Revive deep spirituality in my heart;
Let me live near to the great Shepherd,
Hear His voice, know its tones, follow its calls.
Keep me from deception by causing me to abide in the truth,
From harm by helping me to walk in the power of the Spirit.
Give me intenser faith in the eternal verities,
Burning into me by experience the things that I know;
Let me never be ashamed of the truth of the gospel,
That I may bear its reproach,
Vindicate it,
See Jesus as its essence,
Know in it the power of the Spirit.
Lord, help me, for I am often lukewarm and chill;
Unbelief mars my confidence,
Sin makes me forget Thee.
Let the weeds that grow in my soul be cut at their roots;
Grant me to know that I truly live only when I live to Thee,
That all else is trifling.
Thy presence alone can make me holy, devout, strong and happy. Abide in me, gracious God.
Psalm 92 (above) was the immediate answer that a 15 year old Pakistani girl gave when asked if any Scripture came to mind after having acid thrown on her face and body because she resisted the advances of a Moslem man. With only one eye remaining and massive facial and body disfigurement she still was giving thanks to our Lord.
“Resting on God” is taken from The Valley of Vision, which is a collection of Puritan prayers. We have shared it with some of you and we pray that it will encourage you all.
Our trip to Pennsylvania in October was unprecedented in “close calls,” a near wreck with an 18 wheeler, Jobe’s escapade in a slippery shower, landing somehow flat on the floor (with no injuries) and the next night his thwarted attempt to fly out a 4th story window after catching his foot in the bedspread! The ministry opportunities were fortunately much more uneventful, in terms of life threatening, and most enjoyable.
The doctor’s appointment for Jobe went well and with no further atrial fib since July, he wants him to remain on all the current medications, with some major tests in the spring. Taryn and Mirren continue to stay very busy with their various classes and are thankful for the instruction they are receiving.
We are very thankful this year for the degree of health and continued ministry opportunities the Lord has provided. We thank God for each of you who pray so faithfully for us and the ministry and for your gifts that enable us to continue ministering as we do. We praise God for allowing us to live in a country in which we can still freely worship and enjoy the benefits of liberty and freedom. It grieves us to see the ongoing erosion of the godly values upon which our country was founded, but we thank God for the faithful remnant of believers that continue to labor for HIS glory amid increasing persecution and intimidation, even in the church. Let us pray for our nation and for God’s continued hand of blessing and mercy. The following verses of the Thanksgiving hymn, Come Ye Thankful People Come, are not the most well known, but certainly encourage our hearts with the eternal state that is coming.
For the Lord our God shall come, And shall take His harvest home; From His field shall in that day All offenses purge away. Give His angels charge at last, In the fire the tares to cast, But the fruitful ears to store In His garner evermore. Even so, Lord, quickly come To Thy final harvest-home; Gather Thou Thy people in, Free from sorrow, free from sin. There forever purified, In Thy presence to abide, Come, with all Thine angels come; Raise the glorious harvest home. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” Revelation 22:20b
