America, the Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, for purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain, America! America! God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved and mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine till all success be nobleness and every gain divine.

Over a half century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of old people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: “Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened.” 1983, Alexander I. Solzhenitsyn

Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection:  That Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of Whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.  Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. July 4, 1776 is the date recognized as the birth of our nation, The United States of America.  God has blessed our nation immeasurably and allowed us to bless other nations with the blessings we have enjoyed.  Unfortunately as chronicled above, we have forgotten our God, the God of the Bible, The great  I AM (Exodus 3:14), the Alpha and Omega (Rev. 1:8), and the only true God ( I Cor.8:6).  Let us meditate on Psalm 95:6-8 and be reminded that the remedy for a hard heart is a bended knee and an attentive ear to the Word of God.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.  Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness.   Psalm 95:6-8

Please be praying for the Martin Family as we have huge challenges ahead of us.  Taryn and Mirren are in uncharted waters with their dissertation work. We are hopeful that they will be graduating in May of ’09, by God’s grace. We are proceeding one step at a time with the production of the new DVD series, Creation Proclaims!  This project needs much prayer and provision.  Please pray for Paul Meehan as he translates our four part DVD series (Evolution of a Creationist) into Hungarian. We praise our Lord that we have been able to sustain another round of entropy here on the home front. Jobe is adjusting better to the hearing aids and the ongoing challenges of age and stage amidst much continuing travel.  We all continue to struggle with the chigger invasion and multiple bites in spite of various remedies and treatments! Please pray specifically for the opportunities to witness at the NEA Convention in Washington D.C.  Thanks as always for your prayers, support, and encouragement.
