The Lord has blessed in the various ministry trips with exciting stories and evidences of His gracious blessings and mercy at every juncture. He has allowed the materials of the Evolution of a Creationist book, the same named four part series, The Incredible Creatures Series, and now the Creation Proclaims first DVD (“Climbers and Creepers”) to be in circulation worldwide. We would especially appreciate your prayers that this last series can be completed as soon as possible in early 2010. The second in the series is entitled “Flight and Spike” and will include bats, owls, porcupines, dinosaurs, etc. We sincerely thank all of you who the Lord uses to minister to us through your faithful prayers and gifts during these challenging times! November marked our 25th year with Biblical Discipleship Ministries and we praise the Lord for His hand of grace and love through the many challenges as He has continually proven Himself to be faithful and true (I Thessalonians 5:24).

“Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” (Romans 5:20)

This is the time of year that Americans set aside to reflect on the blessings of God which have been showered on us in the previous year. All other holidays, even Christmas and Easter, can be skewed into a non-Christian meaning, but not Thanksgiving. Historically, Thanksgiving was a time to give thanks to God for the bountiful harvest. While there are those to whom we should give thanks for particular favors, there is only One to whom we can give thanks for the blessings of life. Nothing else makes sense.

Christians, of course, have much more for which to give thanks than the non-believer, or at least they have the eyes with which to see and the heart with which to recognize God’s blessings. Indeed, Paul instructs us that “In every thing [we should] give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (I Thessalonians 5:18), the tense of the verb implying a habitual, continual thanksgiving. Unfortunately in our culture, even in Christian circles, we sometimes struggle with thankfulness as we have been so inundated with the politically correct attitude of “entitlement” and thanklessness. Everything we have is from the hand of God and we should, even in our suffering or inconvenience, be thankful for the blessings of life and ability to serve our God (The Lord Jesus Christ) with the gifts and talents with which He has blessed us. An unthankful heart is a proud heart that chooses not to acknowledge the blessings of the Almighty but still desires the blessings of God’s grace.

We should be specifically thankful for His grace which, as explained in our text, completely overwhelmed our sin, and brought salvation and freedom from guilt (Romans 5:20, above). “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8).

Note that in our text the word “abound” appears three times. Both the offense and sin exist in abundance. But the abundance of grace comes from a different Greek word which means literally “to exist in superabundance.” But there is more. It is further modified by the prefix “much more,” implying a grace that is beyond superabundance. As we see the American dream and our freedoms rapidly being eliminated, this grace can allow us to have joy and be thankful even in a time unprecedented in the history of the United States of America where our leadership totally ignores the National Day of Prayer yet lavishly celebrates Halloween.

At this special time of year let us not be dissatisfied and discontent with the blessings of the Lord, but have diligence in the opportunities of the moment and joyful anticipation of the blessed hope of things to come in the life of the believer. In light of these times in which we live, let us be steadfast, immovable and continue to abound in the work of the Lord—for His glory and praise! (Selections and additions/paraphrases, ICR Days of Praise, Nov. 2006)

BDM was “birthed” out of Didasko Ministries back in the early 80’s while we were still in seminary. God has graciously given us all of you as co-laborers in this ministry of evangelism and discipleship that has outreaches around the world. We are thankful for the opportunities to speak on the various areas of Worldview, Family Relationships, Discipleship, New Age Cults, Bible Prophecy, and the Creation/Evolution issues. The materials God has enabled us to produce by His grace are being used to promote a biblical basis for the Christian worldview, especially in the areas of Family and the Creation/Evolution debate (The Evolution of a Creationist, (book and DVD series), Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution series and the new Creation Proclaims series). We have survived home school, heart stents, back problems, book writing (five foreign languages), video filming, learning Power Point, maintaining our sanity through Taryn and Mirren’s doctoral programs in history, travel that can many times take us on the road for almost three weeks out of the month, a busy guest house, the continued challenge of keeping house, cars, and yard, and the greatest challenge of having a spirit that is willing, but an “earthly tent” that is weak. We so thank the Lord that His grace is sufficient and that His power continues to be perfected in our weaknesses. Please continue to uplift us in prayer. Nothing is more encouraging to us than to know that we are being prayed for on a regular basis. Please pray specifically for the completion of this current Creation Proclaims series. We pray that your prayers and monetary investments will bring eternal glory for our Lord.

Tragic Ignorance

“Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not” (Hosea 7:9).

One of the saddest dramas in human experience is the sight of a proud and confident leader who does not realize that his once-vaunted powers have deserted him and he now appears merely weak and foolish. Mighty Samson, with his locks shorn, was a sad example of such tragic ignorance. “And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him” (Judges 16:20), so the Philistines put out his eyes and bound him with chains. So it was with the once-mighty people of Israel in the days of their deep apostasy. Hosea described their distressing condition in the graphic words of our text.

Many years later, God’s chosen people exhibited an even more tragic state of pompous ignorance. Their Messiah had come to them, and they didn’t know Him, even crucifying Him. God’s judgment couldn’t be delayed. “[They] shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation” (Luke 19:44).

But perhaps the most tragic case is the church in Laodicea. This church represents all those outwardly prosperous evangelical churches that attempt to take a neutral stance on the basic conflicts of the last days. The one who is “the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God” (Revelation 3:14) will pronounce the awful judgment. “So then because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (vv. 16-17). How urgently the people of God need to guard against the tragedy of arrogant ignorance! Dr. Henry M. Morris, Days of Praise, August 19, 2009. www.icr.org

Jeremiah 2:9 (above) has one interpretation—God dealing with the Jewish people, but there may be an application to USA. The generation of the ‘60’s, the Hippy generation, departed from the Lord by kicking Him out of our schools and country via the courts. We are now in the generation of the Hippy’s grandchildren [the “children’s children”]. Could God be saying to our country “You refused Me in your youth (1960’s), USA, so I will now get your attention—I will bring down my judgment on the generation of your grandchildren and perhaps that will finally gain your attention!

Thirty-eight years ago when we moved to Dallas, we remember Francis Schaffer making the comment that “really all the Evangelical Christians in America want is their personal peace and affluence” and a “leave me alone tunnel vision” attitude. From what we observe of these last 30 plus years, he seems to be correct in his assessment. Praise God there are godly remnant families scattered here and there that are NOT this way.

At bedtime we routinely read together as a family a devotional, and the one above was the one for August 19th. The term “tragic” seemed to resonate with us all. It is the perfect description of where our country is right now, having chosen “other gods” and the people, for the most part, specifically and obviously not serving God as did our early forefathers . We feel this is an important message for all of us and we pray that our prayer would be that of Philippians 3:10 that we would “know HIM and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death.”

It has been quite a last couple of months for us with the girls finally home from college, the home school conventions and other travel, and numerous medical appointments. We need lots of prayer for the busy next two months—pray for open hearts of the people and health and safety for us.
